Using Crop Tool

Crop Tool(Shortcut key -C)

Crop Tool is used to crop images in photoshop. Cut off some portion from the image, that you may not particularly like and focus on the section of the image that you want to highlight. Crop tool 5 icon in photoshop, you can also select crop tool by pressing C.

Using a crop tool is similar to marquee tool, you can just drag a selection. Space bar and shift keys can be used to drag and shape the rectangle about the canvas. When you are satified with your selection, press enter to crop or click the “tick” icon seen on the menu bar.

Crop Tool Presets



The arrow by the crop tool icon on menu bar, gives a drop down list of common picture sizes. You can use these if you wish to print the images and frame it.

The arrow by the icon for the crop tool drops down into a list of common picture sizes. Use these if you plan on printing the image and framing it in a standard frame.

While these presets offer a precise means to crop an image down to the desired size. This tool does not give a solution to the problem of reducing the size of an image. But still you can solve this problem in photoshop by changing the size of an image by clicking on the image menu at the top of the screen and selecting the Image Size–>Option.

Use the empty input boxes as a means to specify your own dimensions and resolution. Resolution has to do with the quality of the image, set a higher resolution to increase picture quality. Be aware that increasing a resolution of an image also increases the file size of that image.

Cropped Area Option

This option asks you what to do with the portion out of selection, you select delete or hide.

Using Delete, when you have finished cropping the rest of the image’s portion gets deleted. If you try to move the image with Move Tool(first tool in photoshop), you can see empty spaces.

Using Hide, when you have finished cropping the rest of the image’s portion get hidden. If you try to move the image with Move tool, you can see the rest of the images(that was taken off).

Shield Option

Sheild is nothing but the differenciation between the selected area and rest of the image. By default, when you make a selection with crop tool, you can notice that the portion of the selection gets darken, hightlighting the selected area, this is the function of shield. Instead of making the rest of the portion darken(black) you can change it to whatever color you like by change the color option, and opacity is the opacity level for the color that you have selected.
